I’m trying to listen carefully to these conversations whilst I am still a subscriber.

Broadly, the initiatives on Trump’s first day around WHO & Paris & gender streamlining is a good statement of intent. However, to rename the Gulf of Mexico the Gulf of America is ludicrous.

Every map, app, signage, uniforms et al across all the States will need to be changed. Taxpayers will foot the bill. Is this a good use of public money? Given your previous commentary on UK councils wasting money Nick - how can you support this?

Trump also pushing AI developed vaccines (which is a cause for concern) neither of you have even touched on?

Some of your data is erroneous. Filling the average car in America for £10 v.s £80-90 in the UK? Today’s average price per gallon for regular gas in the US is $3.2 per US gallon. The cost in the UK for an Imperial gallon is avg £6.20. Imperial Gallon is around 4.55 litres & 3.79 litres for a US gallon. You’re way off - and whilst I agree with your business unit price for electricity on both sides of the Atlantic - if throwaway comments elsewhere are so inaccurate it reduces these discussions to two poorly informed blokes down the pub.

There is no magic bullet in the US & no magic bullet here either. Trump will quite probably make as many mistakes as he has wins.

What matters is community in both countries agree on the most important matters & get accountability out of government- which we have not had during this century.

Beware of the salve of populist appeasement.

There has never been a better time for societal unity & independent thinking.
