SNP: I Never Liked Them, But Now I Know Why
I dislike the SNP. I always have. There is something about them that makes me instinctively recoil into a defensive position, the same thing happens when I hear feminists spout their anti-men rhetoric. This is a natural reaction when you perceive a threat and are potentially in danger. The SNP are a danger to me because they are racists – they are anti-English.
Let us look at some recent press headlines to get an idea of how widespread Anglophobia is in Scotland under the SNP:
- Express, June 2021: Scotland football fan shame as foul-mouthed, anti-English video sparks urgent police probe
- GB News, March 2022: Scottish council targets anti-English racism as 'it's more common than Islamophobia'
- The Herald, April 2021: Sean Clerkin's anger over 'England Get Out of Scotland' banner race crime charge draws police response
- Aberdeen Live, May 2022: Aberdeen police probe 'anti-English hate crime' in Grandholm Village
- The Telegraph, May 2022: You may hate the English, but don't say so, Scottish independence supporters told
The last headline says it all. The SNP know they are anti-English but need their supporters to not be so blatant about it for it may lose them votes. Racist and sneaky – an SNP long-held trait that will become clear as you read.
Who are the Scottish National Party, aka SNP? If you ask them they will tell you they are a centre-left social democratic political party. This sounds harmless, so what does this actually mean?
Social democracy is a political, social, and economic philosophy within socialism that supports political and economic democracy. It advocates for economic and social interventions to promote social justice.
In a nutshell, they are plain old-fashioned socialists with a modern twist. This is seen by the bat shit crazy ideas they come up with, such as, every child being appointed a state employee as a guardian. And let us not forget the disaster of no university fees which has lowered standards, led to an unofficial cap on places and lowered admission of poorer students. Socialists are amazing at coming up with ideas that look fantastic on paper, but never work once implemented.
The SNP were formed in 1934 through the merger of the National Party of Scotland and the Scottish Party. They achieved their first parliamentary success at the Motherwell by-election in 1945 but lost the seat at the general election three months later. They then had to wait over a decade before they won another seat.
In the 1974 breakthrough election, they won 11 Westminster seats which was a record until Nicola Sturgeon assumed the party's leadership. In 2014, under the leadership of Alex Salmond, they finally gained a referendum on Scottish independence which they lost. Salmond resigned and Nicola Sturgeon won the leadership election unopposed.
In the 2015 election, the SNP won 56 out of 59 Westminster seats and 50% of the popular vote. An amazing achievement after the referendum loss.
In July 2021, the Scottish Police launched an investigation into missing SNP funds raised between 2017 and 2020 specifically for a second referendum.
The police arrested former SNP Treasurer Colin Beattie and the SNP Chief Executive Peter Murrell who is the husband to Nicola Sturgeon. Eventually, they arrested the SNP party leader and First Minister of Scotland - Nicola Sturgeon. All three individuals were released without charge pending further investigations of this ongoing case.
During this turbulent period, another self inflict disaster smashed the SNP in the face – trans women rapists being placed into female prisons to serve their sentences. The Scottish public was confused and angry. Sturgeon resigned.
I must make clear that she did not resign because the top figures in the party were being arrested. Or because she had supported the woke policy that locked up male rapists with women. According to her, she resigned so she could go for a walk on her own and spend time with her family. Any other explanation is pure speculation.
Humza Yousaf became Leader of the Scottish National Party on 27 March 2023 after winning the leadership election. The poisoned chalice was handed over. It is predicted that the next general election will not be kind to the SNP.
Not everything about the SNP is as clear-cut as it seems from the outside. They are full of contradictions, bigotry, and even hypocrisy - as well as loathing their cousins south of the border.
We all know the SNP love the European Union. If they ever break up the UK then they intend to rejoin the EU - they prefer European masters than perceived English ones. But it was not always the case.
In 1975, the UK held a referendum to decide if the UK should remain in the European Economic Community after one year of membership - the EEC was the precursor to the EU. The SNP was the only major Scottish party to officially back leaving. Billy Wolfe, party leader at this time, argued that continuing membership of the EEC would mean "a political dark age of remote control and undemocratic government".
Donald Stewart, who led the SNP's parliamentary group, claimed the EEC "represents everything our party has fought against: centralisation, undemocratic procedures, power politics, and a fetish for abolishing cultural differences".
All socialist regimes have a dark side and the SNP are no different. One of the best-kept publicly known secrets is their connection to the Nazis and Hitler. Wow. I must be making stuff up now to damage their reputation. Or am I?
The SNP were divided on British loyalty during the Second World War. Douglas Young, who was SNP leader from 1942 to 1945, campaigned for the Scottish people to refuse conscription. This was seen as undermining the British war effort against the Nazis, he was imprisoned for refusing to be conscripted and began his party leadership from behind bars. He once wrote: "The SNP must not be thirled to democracy in case democracy should be the wrong camp."
Andrew Dewar Gibb, founder member of the party and chairman in 1934, frequently quoted Hitler in his speeches. He saw Nazism as an opposition to communism. You could argue that the SNP shows signs of national socialism. He wrote in his diary: "I don't care who wins" and offered to resign at a party meeting in Edinburgh, saying he "made no secret of my distinct Fascist leanings".
In 1941, the home of party leader Bruce Watson was raided by MI5 officers looking for subversive literature and weapons - they left empty-handed. They also raided the home of Arthur Donaldson, a future SNP chairman and party leader. They found five revolvers, ammunition, Fascist material and a letter to Nazi secret agent Dr Gerhard von Taverner – he was imprisoned as a potential collaborator.
Recently released MI5 documents claim that Donaldson conspired to set up a Vichy-style regime with himself as a Scottish Quisling. They also claim that he revealed to a close confidant, who was also a British agent, that a network of Nazi sympathisers were planning to undermine the war effort. Donaldson was among several nationalists arrested under suspicion of subversive activities. He was released without charge after six weeks.
My initial feelings towards the SNP have been proven to be correct. They are a clear and present danger to me as an Englishman. I do not think they represent the people of Scotland for the Scots are my cousins, we are one family sharing an island.
Bring on the next election for I want to see their vote share decline so I can celebrate their loss of seats in Holyrood and Westminster.
The people of Scotland deserve so much better than the SNP, just as we all deserve better than the spineless politicians in Westminster. We need to vote differently going forward, otherwise, we will get more of the same.
Who wants more of the same? Not me.
