Carry On Stop The Boats
The lack of action on this problem is a good example of what this Tory government has delivered in the last dozen years. Absolutely nothing. The most loyal of supporters may point to Brexit and say this is a direct result of a Conservative Government - they would be correct, but for all the wrong reasons. Brexit was a forced error, not a premeditated outcome. And while on the subject of Brexit, do not forget the poor deal they managed to secure that leaves part of the UK in the wilderness. As I initially stated, they have achieved nothing in their time in office.
To most people, stopping the boats seems like an easy thing to do for an island country. We have borders, we have laws, we have a navy and we even have something called Border Force. Problem solved. But as we all know, it is not that easy otherwise it would have been done. We may have stopped the Spanish, the French and the Nazis, but times have changed. We now have weak pathetic men and over-compassionate women in charge - they worry more about themselves and foreigners than they do about us.
Let us look at who is NOT to blame: lefty lawyers, the French, and the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR). The blame game gets us nowhere and deflects attention away from where it really should be placed – at the feet of the elected government in the UK. It is that simple.
Lefty lawyers do their job and ensure the law is adhered to – and so they should because one day you may need a lefty lawyer to protect your rights. The French government is putting their people ahead of ours and getting rid of unwanted immigrants – and so they should, if only our government would do the same and put us first. The European Court of Human Rights does what it says on the tin – it upholds and enforces a set of laws that have been agreed upon by its members. We do not visit an acupuncturist and then complain that they stuck needles in us – that is what they do - we know it, they know it.
It is clear that we are not a fully sovereign nation and Parliament is only partially responsible for making the laws we follow. No one can dispute this reality. How did we end up in such a place? Who gave our country away? I am pretty sure it was not me.
Post WWII there was an understandable aim to ensure such a thing did not happen again in Europe. We have no concept of this desire for peace for we have not lived through a world war, never mind two in two generations. We started to pool our national responsibilities in the hope that it would lead to better decision-making and end the mistakes that lead to conflict. United Nations (UN). North Atlantic Treaty Organisation (NATO). European Economic Community (later known as European Union). ECHR.
To be a success within such organisations requires the ability to compromise and to follow the path laid out in front of you. Real leaders are problematic in such situations for they have their own ideas which is an anathema. What is needed in such organisations are lots of middle managers. They do as they are told, implement whatever comes down from above, and only concentrate on the task in front of them – never beyond that.
Welcome to our Parliament in 2023 - a gaggle of middle managers whose only purpose is to ensure that there is a purpose for their existence. Our politicians have done what they have been told to do by external international organisations for so long that they now do not know how to run a country or make effective decisions. The same thing happens to prisoners and even some soldiers when they come home to make a new life – they have no idea how to make decisions because they have been under someone else's control for years. I have first-hand experience of this while working with rough sleepers – I call it learnt helplessness.
How do we fix the small boat problem? We start by sending a signal across the world that the UK is back under local management – we achieve this by withdrawing from the ECHR. No debate in Parliament, no referendum. Just a written instruction sent to the court that we have now left. That simple.
If we ever have a politician this brave then they should also leave the 1951 Refugee Convention for the world has changed since the 1950s. The UK cannot be home to the third world. Parliament should decide if we accept refugees and asylum claims for we can then hold them accountable for such decisions at the next election. I am tired of seeing weak men in Africa and Asia running away from their responsibilities, instead of fixing their own countries and improving the lives of their families. An epidemic of male cowardice has swept across the globe, no country is immune.
I would also want us to look at our involvement in the World Health Organisation (WHO) and other United Nations organisations that seem to have a veto over our nation's decisions. I personally would sideline the UN as much as possible, but keep our permanent seat on the Security Council for we earned it.
Once we have dealt with the foreigners meddling in our business then we can act in the national interest. If new laws are needed then Parliament can create them – but I see no need for any new laws to stop the boats, only a backbone is needed.
The next step is to stop the small boats by using the Navy and Border Force. Intercepted boats will be towed back to France or forcibly evacuated onto navy ships, held as prisoners, and taken to an island for detention and deportation. They will be treated as the criminals they are.
Deportation will be to their home country if possible, if not, then to Rwanda. No asylum claim will be allowed under UK law from anyone who attempts to or has, entered the UK illegally. After one month, if not sooner, there will be no more small boats crossing the channel. Guaranteed.
We then have to deal with the illegal immigrants already in the country, some in hotels, some AWOL. The answer to this problem will be mass deportation. They will be given a few months of amnesty to remove themselves and get to any country they wish, and take any money they have earned with them. A reverse small boat criminal network will appear overnight as many will flee back to France rather than take the risk of being sent to Rwanda. We will then happily accept money from the French to try to stop these boats – how sweet this will taste.
For individuals who do not take this opportunity forced deportation awaits to either their homeland or Rwanda. Excess money or capital they have acquired will be confiscated from these individuals to pay for their own deportation costs. They will be fingerprinted, given a criminal record and never allowed to return to the UK. Persona non grata.
Then we need to turn our attention to legal immigration which is running at the highest level ever – this is an article for another day. But note, this week the government signed a trade deal with India that allows more immigrants to come to the UK. Unbelievable.
I am the son of an immigrant. I do not blame immigrants for wanting to come to the best country in the world. I blame a long succession of governments that have ignored the wishes of people and allowed mass immigration to make their job easier.
It is time we made their jobs more difficult.
